#4423 Exploring decorin in plasma-derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) as a potential diagnostic biomarker for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours

Introduction: Pancreatic Neuroendocrine tumours (PanNETs), the most common site for GEP‑NENs in Asian countries, particularly India, have shown increasing incidence. Due to a lack of specific biomarkers, often detected at advanced stages. So, this study utilised PanNET tissue proteomics for cancer biomarker discovery and explored the impact of small extracellular cellular vesicles (sEVs) in PanNET growth and metastasis, as they reflect the molecular profile of their tissue of origin.

#4338 Spot urine 5-HIAA creatinine ratio is comparable to 24hr urine collection for diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome

Introduction: Carcinoid syndrome (CS) constitutes up to 20% of functional neuroendocrine neoplasms and can lead to carcinoid crisis (CC), a potentially fatal complication during invasive procedures. Urine 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) is the preferred diagnostic biomarker for CS and prognostic marker for CC. 5HIAA is collected over 24-hours with strict dietary restriction for the 2 days prior as well as the day of the collection. False positive and negative results can occur due to under and over-collection. Patient inconvenience also contributes to the low request rate of this test.

#4163 Metabolite biomarker discovery for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors using metabolomic approach

Introduction: Metabolic flexibility is one of the key hallmarks of cancer and metabolites are the final products of this adaptation, reflecting the tumors’ aberrant changes. However, the metabolic plasticity of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNET) is still unknown. pNETs are heterogeneous which makes their diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic management difficult.

#3613 Plasma-derived small extracellular vesicles reveal pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

Introduction: The incidence of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) has increased over the past 30 years worldwide. The survival rate is low due to the diagnosis being done at a higher stage and unavailability of specific and sensitive diagnostic markers. Hence, better and efficient early diagnostic biomarkers are required at the earliest. As the role of small extracellular vesicles (sEV) in tumor growth and cancer metastasis is increasing exponentially due to its capability to cause metastasis and proliferation. For the first time, this study establishes the relationship between sEV concentration and PNET grades as well as the presence of BIRC2/cIAP as sEV cargo derived from plasma.

Introduction: NETs are heterogeneous neoplasms that have the capacity to secrete hormones or bioactive molecules. Dysregulated metabolism is one of the key hallmarks of cancer and the altered expression of metabolic enzymes is deeply involved in tumor development, progression, and metastasis.
