#3475 Serum Activin A is not associated with carcinoid heart disease (CHD) in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET)

Introduction: CHD is a fibrotic cardiac disorder that is caused by serotonin secreted by NET, especially in the presence of liver metastases. Currently, N terminal pro B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is used to detect cardiac damage due to CHD, yet no predictive biomarkers are available. Activin A has been identified as a potential biomarker for CHD.

#526 Association Between Activin A & NT-pro-BNP in Carcinoid Heart Disease and Intestinal Desmoplasia in Patients with Metastatic Midgut and Pelvic NET

Introduction: Carcinoid heart disease (CHD) involves cardiac valvular fibrosis and volume overload. N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) is released by the myocardium in response to increased wall stress in CHD. Activin A is a member of the TGF-ß superfamily involved in fibrogenesis.

#356 Activin A in Carcinoid Heart Disease: A Possible Role in Diagnosis and Pathogenesis

Introduction: Carcinoid heart disease (CHD), a complication of NETs, is characterized by right heart fibrotic lesions. In addition to serotonin, cytokines and growth factors with fibrogenic properties may play a role.
