#3724 Tackling drug activity and resistance mechanisms in neuroendocrine tumors treated with cabozantinib

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are highly vascularized malignancies and angiogenesis plays a relevant role in cell proliferation and survival. Nowadays, innovative therapies have amplified the paradigm treatment of NETs. Among the compounds with anti-vascular properties, cabozantinib (CAB) appeared promising.

#3630 Metformin suppresses small intestinal neuroendocrine tumor growth in vivo

Introduction: Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) are rare and slow growing, but most patients are diagnosed at a late stage with distance metastases. In the past few years, several studies have reported the anti-tumor activity of metformin in different cancers, and recently we showed that metformin treatment repressed cell viability of SI-NET cells and inhibited the growth of GOT1 spheroids.

#3536 Comparison of drug sensitivity profiles of various NEN spheroids

Introduction: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are rare cancers that arise from neuroendocrine cells. NENs are classified as well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs). Small bowel and pancreatic NETs (SBNET & PNETs) are generally slow-growing but commonly metastasize to the liver and become aggressive cancers. Little is known about the drug sensitivity profile of these 3 NENs due to the lack of cellular and animal models of these malignancies. Recently, we have developed a protocol to culture NEN cells from patient tumors as patient-derived spheroids (PDS) and showed expression of NEN markers. The rarity and slow growing features of these spheroids have been hindering drug screens with many compounds.

#2834 Tumor-Promoting Effects of the Transcriptional Regulator CUX1 in PanNET

Introduction: Previously, we identified CUX1 as mediator of metastatic behaviour and poor differentiation in human insulinomas. CUX1 mediated tumor-promoting functions via enhancing proliferation, resistance to apoptosis and angiogenesis in-vitro and in-vivo.

#1488 Chemoprevention with a Long Acting Somatostatin Analogue in a Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN1) Knockout Mouse Model Does Delay the Progression of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (pNENs)

Introduction: Long acting somatostatin analogues (LAR) are an essential part of the treatment of neuroendocrine tumours.
