Introduction: Increased levels of serotonin secretion are associated with mesenteric fibrosis (MF) in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs). However, only a proportion of patients with increased serotonin production will develop mesenteric fibrosis.

#2144 Analysis of the Proteomics of Serum Circulating Exosomes in Gastro-Entero-Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

Introduction: Gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms(GEP-NENs) are intractable, heterogeneous tumors, characterized by secreting serotonin metabolites or polypeptide hormones. There are currently little targets for the diagnosis and treatment of GEP-NENs. Serum circulating exosomes (scrExos) are extracellular vesicles secreted by all cells especially neuroendocrine cells to some extent, circulating in the blood with proteins and nucleic acids.

Introduction: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (PNETs) are a heterogeneous group of rare pancreatic neoplasms often diagnosed with distant metastases, which are associated with significantly poorer prognosis. Recurrent somatic mutations, chromosomal aberrations and gene expression signatures in PNETs have been described, but the clinical significance of these molecular changes is still poorly understood, and the clinical outcomes of PNET patients remain highly variable.

Introduction: Most of the current therapeutic strategies used for neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are insufficient due to poor knowledge of these tumours. Despite showing differentiated features, NETs often exhibit therapeutic resistance to common treatments similarly to other cancers. Although signalling abnormalities have been reported, molecular mechanisms responsible for this resistance phenomenon are yet to be understood.
