#3048 Somatostatin Analogs or Active Surveillance in Sporadic Non-Functioning Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

Introduction: Non-functioning (NF), sporadic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) have usually an indolent behavior, but sometimes show an unpredictable aggressiveness. Surgery is the first-choice for localized tumors >2 cm. Unresectable or metastatic lesions expressing somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are treated with Somatostatin analogs (SSAs). No evidence of SSAs efficacy exists in tumors ≤2 cm, for which active surveillance has been proposed.

#2989 Different Social Media Neuroendocrine Tumor Indexing Strategies Used by Physicians and Advocacy Groups

Introduction: The use of Twitter to disseminate medical content has increased over the last decade. Although Twitter activity by oncologists is clustered around international conferences, advocacy groups have different temporal social media patterns. Furthermore, given the non-standardized method of indexing tweets using Twitter hashtags, it can be difficult to follow the full breadth of a topic.

#2257 Poorly Differentiated Neuroendocrine Carcinomas of the Colon: A Clinicopathological Study

Introduction: Neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) of the colon and rectum are aggressive and rare tumours. The Digestive Tract WHO classification 2010 defines the entity of large cell NEC (LCNEC) in contrast to small cell NEC (SCNEC).

#2196 The Neuroendocrine Phenotype, Genomic Profile, and Therapeutic Sensitivity of GEPNET Cell Lines

Introduction: Patient tumour-derived cell lines have been widely used for studying the molecular mechanisms of tumours and their response to therapy. The establishment of cell lines from gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEPNETs) has proved difficult, but despite the challenges a limited amount of cell lines now exists.

#2172 Well-Differentiated Neuroendocrine Lesions in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Introduction: Whether inflammatory Bowel disease (IBD) increases the risk of developing neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) is not clear. NETs are rare in IBD, though one recent report suggests that NETs are 15 times more frequent in patients with Crohn’s disease. Besides NETs, which are discrete mass-forming lesions, microscopic neuroendocrine cell clusters or micronests (NEMs), difficult to measure, are sometimes observed in the lamina propria/muscularis mucosae of IBD patients.
